About Us
At Harrington & Mahoney, each partner has more than 45 years of experience as a private criminal defense lawyer. Each partner is a Past-President of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Jim Harrington has served as a Director of the Erie County Bar Association. Mark Mahoney was elected to the maximum of two consecutive terms as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). Each partner has been sought out as an educator to law students, lawyers, and judges.
Mark Mahoney is the only attorney in North America and perhaps the world, dedicating his practice almost exclusively to the representation of those with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Asperger's Syndrome. The top lawyers across the county who have teamed up with tMrk in defending these cases include 8 past presidents of the NACDL.
Harrington & Mahoney is not a "general practice" law firm. We are dedicated primarily to the defense of all types of criminal cases and selected appeals and post-conviction matters, but we also take matrimonial cases. When a client comes to us seeking assistance in an area outside our expertise, we are happy to assist in finding the best lawyer outside the firm to help.
Being at one of the busiest border crossings, we handle a large number of matters for Canadian clients, with special attention to potential border-crossing and immigration consequences of criminal proceedings and the Transfer of Offenders Treaty between the U.S. and Canada. We are privileged to have earned the trust of Canada's most recognized criminal defense lawyers and law firms, who frequently refer clients to us for help.
Our associate attorneys, Ian Harrington, Connor Dougherty, and Thomas Heubusch, have developed broad expertise in handling criminal cases in the firm. Our two legal assistants, Ivonne DeLuca, Denise Dzierzewski, and our receptionist, Debra Logan, are often the firm's primary contacts and help us effectively and efficiently meet the needs of our clients. At any point in time, the firm employs two or more law clerks who take an intense interest in client matters.
