Dr. Anthony Galea enters plea to "misbranding" offense
Our client, world renowned Sports Medicine Physician, Dr. Anthony Galea appeared in federal court in Buffalo today. He had voluntarily come across the border from Canada to appear for this purpose. His plea was to a federal offense related to what is called "misbranding" of pharmaceuticals, here involving labels on medicine not in English, or not bearing the "Rx Only" insignia required by federal law. Here is the text of a press statement issued by our co-counsel, Brian Greenspan, of Greenspan, Humphrey Lavine, of Toronto:
"This resolution confirms the position that Dr. Galea has always maintained; that he has not, nor has he ever been involved in performance enhancement. Dr. Galea is justifiably a celebrated and world renowned physician dedicated to healing injuries by utilizing medically appropriate forms of treatment.
Dr. Galea greatly regrets that while his application to provide medical services in the United States was pending, he treated a number of patients, many of whom were originally patients in his Canadian practice. Regrettably, in providing these services in the United States, he brought with him medications, which although routinely used in Canada and elsewhere in the world, did not bear the RX symbol nor directions in the English language which are required by American regulations.
While this resolution is premised on Dr. Galea's acceptance of full responsibility for the shortcomings set out in the agreement, it also an acknowledgment that he has always acted in the best interests of his patients."
