At Harrington & Mahoney, each of the partners have more than 30 years experience as private criminal defense lawyers. They have served as leaders in local, state, and national bar associations dedicated to the defense of criminal cases, and have been sought out as educators to law students, lawyers and judges.

Both partners in the firm are Past-Presidents of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Jim Harrington has served as a Director of the Erie County Bar Association. Mark Mahoney is on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Harrington & Mahoney is not a “general practice” law firm. We stick to what we know how to do best. Each attorney in the firm works in limited areas of the law where pursuit of excellence requires specialization. (New York State does not certify attorneys as specialists in areas of practice). When a client comes to us seeking assistance in an area outside our expertise, we are happy to assist in finding the best lawyer outside the firm to help.

Being at one of the busiest border crossings, we handle a large number of matters for Canadian clients, with special attention to potential border-crossing and immigration consequences of criminal proceeding, and the Transfer of Offenders Treaty between the U.S. and Canada. We are privileged to have earned the trust of the most recognized criminal defense lawyers and law firms in Canada, who frequently refer clients to us for help. To assist us with border and immigration issues we share space with immigration lawyer Joanne Macri who is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Our two legal assistants, Ivonne DeLuca and Denise Dzierzewski, and our receptionist, Debra Logan, are often the primary contacts with the firm, and help us to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of our clients. At any point in time the firm also employs two or more law clerks who take an intense interest in client matters.
